Loved it!
5 stars By Andrea, Aug 06 2015
Grace Brennan is back in London. A courageous and accomplished photojournalist, her experiences in the war-torn parts of the world have left her exhausted and troubled. Coming back to London requires courage of a different nature, more than she may have left in the tank, but it's a risk she is compelled to take. Ten years ago, she ran out on her fianc six months before their wedding. Grace needs to make amends.

Ian MacDonald, (brother of James from 'Five Days in Skye') is beyond shocked when he sees Grace. He gave up his entire sporting career for her, including a shot at Olympic gold, and then she abandoned him without a word of explanation. So why is she back?

What follows is a brilliantly crafted and characterised story of two people finding their way back to love even when it means giving up everything all over again.

I adored Grace. She is fierce and brave, but oh so broken. Ian makes a fabulous hero - a man's man, yet with that vulnerable side when it comes to love that makes him infinitely appealing.

Carla Laureano weaves her themes of trust, forgiveness, and reaching out to God, with an expert hand. Never preachy or religious, Carla is one of my favourite authors of contemporary Christian romance.

Great Sequel!
4 stars By Rochelle, NSW, Jul 06 2015
I love 5 Days in Skye and was please to find out that London Tides was in the printing process.

Grace and Ian have a very interesting dynamic and the experiences for Grace are so incredibly different to those of Ian who has lived at ease in London.
Grace doesn't realize? acknowledge? the effects of PTSD and when Ian is wanting to help her she shuts down to avoid 'feeling' and pushes him away.

The emotions and heartache are well described and easy to 'see' what they would be going through.
The fact that they have been in love for more than a decade is wonderful but the choices and life stages have drawn them apart.

They are this time around 'waiting until marriage' and although this may not have been so in their first relationship it's something that they are honoring. It's great to see that passion is felt and that will power has a say. The Choice can be made and kept.
I do feel that it has been written 'lightly' in showing how God could work in their lives but it's not totally ignored.

They each bring love and commitment but things need to shift for them to move forward into a successful long term marriage. It's a little of the "If you love something let it go ...." but they both make changes and the result is a good one.

You'll enjoy it I think!

Excellent
5 stars By Iola, Jun 22 2015
London Tides is the much-awaited sequel to RITA Award-winner Five Days in Skye.

The author has done an excellent job in researching London life and locations, particularly around rowing. But there were a handful of language glitches which reminded me the novel is written by an American, not a Londoner. Or perhaps the language was edited to make it more accessible to American audiences. Either way, these glitches meant I did have some trouble getting in to the story.

My other area of concern was around the Christian elements of the plot. It was obvious neither Ian nor Grace were practicing Christians ten years ago, and their present faith was also ambiguous. There wasn't a distinct faith thread to appeal to the Christian reader, yet there were perhaps too many 'God' references to appeal to the general market reader.

These two issues aside, I enjoyed London Tides. Grace was a fascinating character, driven by forces she didn't entirely understand. Ian was an amalgamation of many of the men I worked with in London, and I'm pretty sure I met his mother at least once. There was plenty of attraction between the two right from the start (and it was good to see in kept in check), but there was also plenty of conflict, mainly arising from Grace's (understandable) personal lack of direction. This combination made for an excellent plot.
