Meet the Artist

Jars Of Clay

Jars of Clay is a Grammy Award winning Christian rock band from Franklin, Tennessee. They met at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois.

Jars of Clay consists of Dan Haseltine on vocals, Charlie Lowell on piano and keyboards, Stephen Mason on lead guitars and Matthew Odmark on rhythm guitars. Although the band has no permanent drummer or bassist, Jeremy Lutito and Gabe Ruschival of Disappointed By Candy fill these roles for live concerts. Past tour band members include Aaron Sands, Scott Savage, and Joe Porter. Jars of Clay's style is a blend of alternative rock, folk, acoustic, and R and B.

The band's name is derived from the New International Version's translation of 2 Corinthians 4:7: But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. This verse is paraphrased in their song "Four Seven," which appears on Frail and as a hidden track on the CD release of their self-titled album.

Amazing. Truly.
5 stars By Lachlan, Jun 01 2013
The last three studio albums from Jars, "Who we are instead", "Good Monsters" and this one are truly are rare thing in music of any genre, one artist bringing out a masterpiece three albums in a row. I do not say that lightly, because the only Christian artist who I think has done that is the Newsboys in the 90s. I love it how Jars can talk so honestly and openly about relationships. Jars albums ALWAYS take a few listens to get into it, but once you do it gets in your veins (metaphorically). Or it does for me anyway. Its classic Jars, mellow and moody, with rock and pop influences, I simply love this album.

Eclectic Excellence
5 stars By Em, Aug 24 2012
This album contains an eclectic mix of styles and, as always with Jars of Clay, excellent songs such as "Boy". The lyrics explore life's facets and the music is beautiful.

Another masterpiece
5 stars By Joelle, Sep 08 2009
This is another brilliant album from Jars of Clay. If you loved The Eleventh Hour, you won't be disappointed with this album. The lyrics as usual are deep and thought-provoking, while the music is simply perfection.
Best album I've bought in the last two years!
