After a long and lonely silence from Cody Coleman, Bailey Flanigan becomes closer to her one-time Hollywood co-star, Brandon Paul. Nights on the town in New York City and long talks on the balcony of Brandon's Malibu Beach home make Bailey dizzy with new feelings and cause her to wonder if her days with Cody are over forever. Meanwhile, Cody's work coaching a small-town football team has brought him and his players national attention. In the midst of the celebration and success, Cody finds himself much closer to a woman who seems to better understand him and his new life. Even so, never does much time go by without Bailey and Cody experiencing deep feelings of longing for each other, longing both for the past and for answers before they can move forward. Will an unexpected loss be the turning point for Cody? Will Cody and Bailey find a way back together again for the first time in more than a year? And if they do, will their brief time together be enough to help them remember all they've been longing for?

Read this Series!
5 stars By Cherie, Jan 03 2012
This novel was a brilliant read and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. I love how no matter what way the story goes I am always able to relate to the characters in Karen Kingsbury’s novels. Cody’s story in Longing spoke straight to my heart! I adore the love that Cody and Bailey shared up until this book but reading about Brandon’s love for Bailey and the way the he totally cares for her made me rethink whether I was team Cody or team Brandon. The beauty of a Karen Kingsbury novel is that when you think you have the whole story figured out, you really don’t. While some may suggest that the conclusion of the next book ‘Loving’ is obvious, I don’t think that ‘Longing’ drew conclusions on the story of Bailey, and totally believe that the next book will be AMAZING whatever the outcome of Bailey’s relationships! Through reading this book I have grown closer to my Heavenly Father and learnt so much more about walking with Him every day. Thank you, I am forever grateful! (If you are thinking of reading this book but haven’t read the previous two books I would advise you to read those two first).

Part of a looooong series
3 stars By Iola, Dec 16 2011
Longing is the third book in the Bailey Flanigan series (following Leaving and Learning, with the final book, Loving, due to be published in March 2012). I haven’t read the first two (although I have read all the previous books right back from the beginning of the Baxter Family books), and I found it easy to pick up any details I may have missed in those two books. However, aspects of the novel would probably be quite confusing for someone who has not read the any of the previous novels, as the whole series (21 books and counting, over more than ten years) feels like a long-running soap opera. If you have read and enjoyed the Above the Line series or the first two Bailey Flanigan stories, then you will probably enjoy Longing. If you haven’t, then this is probably not the best book to start with. I would suggest young adults start with Take One, and older adults start with Redemption.
