Lovely
4 stars By Bri, Nov 19 2016
At the beginning I get kind of annoyed with Marty and just want her to move on and get over herself, however as her character is developed and you find out more about her, you feel a sense of sorrow. The climax is her figuring out she loves Clark. So its a beautiful romance, and story of how Clark treats her kindly and emphasises the blessing of giving rather than receiving.

Lovely read!
5 stars By Jess, Jan 13 2016
This is a lovely story, beautifully written and one that I have read several times. While the circumstances Marty finds herself in are totally foreign to the reader, the romance is convincing and the reader thoroughly sympathises with all the characters, they are all very well drawn. Highly recommend. An easy read.

An Essential Read
5 stars By Olivia, Dec 14 2012
Set in th 19th century, 19-year-old Marty is devastated when her husband Clem dies and leaves her stranded in the middle of the prairie. In her grief she finds herself agreeing to a marriage of convenience. Clark Davis needs a mother for his young daughter, Missie. Marty is hurt, confused, and angry, especially at Clark. I love this book, and could hardly put it down. Janette Oke's style of writing is captivating. I felt like I was right there with Marty.

Definite 'must read'!!
5 stars By Grace, Oct 09 2012
I first read this book two years ago, and since then have re-read it at least half a dozen times. Janette Oke has written a timeless Christian classic, one that combines a strong faith message, a bit of romance, history, and the importance of family. The book evokes images in the readers mind and the ability to get lost in the characters - its a definite must read!! Each character is unique in themselves, giving the book a wide variety of personalities. The main character, Marty, is loveable and easy to connect with - you'll be laughing, crying, and groaning along with her! Janette Oke's 'Love comes softly' had me laughing and crying - I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone!!

The writing is quite descriptive, meaning that if you prefer a straight forward read you might find yourself skipping through parts. Also, the book is set in the late 19th Century and is an historical romance. (Something worth remembering.)

However, for me, I couldn't fault it.

One of the best parts?

It has sequels. :)
