John Stott books always my top picks when comes to bible study. It always give deep but clear exegesis. His solid scholarship and practical application is a gem to the church. If you read too much of Stott and want try other classic, I highly recommend Llyod Jones six volume Ephesians. I can guarantee you wont regret.
Stott has a very down-to-earth manner in his writing and gives the layperson a wonderful understanding of the book of Ephesians. The strength of this book is that it focuses a lot on application and makes regular links from 'head' to 'heart.' Only criticism I have of this book is that in his fervor to apply particular passages and demonstrate how it should alter the way we live, Stott does not spend adequate time explaining what a particular passage means, and how he has reached his applications from the text. Great for pastors preparing sermons.
This book was written in 1979 ,while John Stott was rector of All Souls, London. It was origionally published under the sub title Gods New Society. I have found it to be one of the most useful books I have ever read. He describes how Christians are called to live in a new relationsip to God and to each other. This new society is to be a witness to the non Christian world. Its messsage is as valuable and as inspiring today ,as it was 30 years ago when the book first appeared. I happly recommend to all who seek a sound and easy to read commentary on the book of Ephesians. It is most suitable to those studying the PTC .
