Prepare to be Challenged
By Christine, Nov 16 2011
In Muddy Spirituality, Jon Owen uses his humorous and insightful anecdotes along with deep biblical knowledge, to challenge the reader about how Jesus would operate in modern settings. His background of working with the poor and marginalised alongside his own experience of growing up the Indian kid in white Australia,... bring out understandings that could not be achieved in other ways. His love of Jesus and desire to bring people to know him is evident. The book draws you into his world and challenges the reader to reflect on how Jesus would respond to some of the people that are written off by mainstream society. The book challenges the reader about preconceptions and invites you to get a little muddy for Jesus.
I was right to be worried about this book.
By Julian Dunham, Program Director Arrow Leadership Australia, Aug 25 2011
I was worried about what might be in this book. I was right to be worried. I knew before I began that it was going to make me uncomfortable, what surprised me was how readable it was. While it did challenge me on a variety levels about my own attitudes and beliefs, I was more struck by how it made me think about my identity in Christ and how that impacts on my need/longing for genuine Christian community. I commend the book and the discussion questions at the end of each chapter for small group study.
Quintessential Aussie reading
By Ross Sutherland, Apr 30 2011
Easy to read, but challenges a range of deeply held Australian beliefs. Owen asks important questions that search more deeply behind the glossy coating presented by many Christian communities today. What is our identity in Christ, as men and women, and Australians? What should Australian Christian community look like? Includes helpful discussion questions at the end of each chapter suitable for small group study.
