Meet the Author

Naomi Reed

Author of the bestselling title My Seventh Monsoon, Naomi Reed grew up in Sydney and trained as a physiotherapist, alongside her high-school sweetheart, Darren. After graduation, they married and worked in Sydney hospitals before answering God's call to the mission field in 1993.

They spent six of the next thirteen years working in Nepal with the International Nepal Fellowship and it changed them irrevocably. They now eat rice for breakfast, leave their chappals at the door and pause interminably if you ask them where their home is. Their three sons, Stephen, Christopher and Jeremy, will tell you excitedly about their home in Nepal. They describe motor bike rides in the Himalayas and home school in their Nepali back garden.

The family are currently back in the Blue Mountains where Naomi is writing, contemplating the seasons and enjoying their home church, The Promise: the message of the Bible through voices of Women; and No Ordinary View; Over My Shoulder: in search of the perfect missionary.

Beautifully written
5 stars By Naomi, Dec 04 2015
Such a beautiful read. Naomi writes with such honesty and Godly reflection. I would describe My Seventh Monsoon as a devotional diary of sorts. In the book Naomi records events and struggles she faces as she serves as a missionary in the Himalayas and shares how God taught her more about Him through them. The lessons she learned in the Himalayas were still relevant to me in the Australian suburbs and my life has been shaped by this book. I highly recommend this book to women of all ages.

Encouraging
4 stars By Bec, Jun 04 2015
This is a wonderful autobiography about the beginning of Naomi Reeds time in Nepal. I have heard Naomi speak at a Christian event, and she writes in the same way - to encourage her readers. This book is much more than details and dates, it is the account of a woman's emotional response to a very new environment (from Sydney to a Himalayan wet season) and the struggles that this brought. The account helpfully points to God's work at every point in her journey. This is an encouraging read for any woman (or man, though I think it will be better-received by a woman!), particularly one who thinks with her heart :)

Seasons of life explored
5 stars By Renee, Jun 28 2013
My Seventh Monsoon is Naomi Reed's first book in her trilogy that also includes 'No Ordinary View' and 'Heading Home'. I had been meaning to read this book since it first came out and was not disappointed. It was a compelling and easy read as Naomi honestly and openly discussed the various seasons in her life, from living in Australia to travelling overseas and back again. She is able to help the reader understand the seasons of their life and the plans God has for them. Through her stories you experience laughter and sadness and are able to reflect on your own journey. Her ability to keep her eyes on God are inspirational and make this book a must read.
