Nearing Home

Billy Graham

New York Times best-seller and 2012 ECPA Book of the Year.*

Join Billy Graham as he shares the challenges of fading strength but still standing strong in his commitment to finishing life well.

Growing old has been the greatest surprise of my life," said Billy Graham, known by many as God's Ambassador. "I would have never guessed what God had in store for me, and I know that as I am nearing home, He will not forsake me the last mile of the way."

Nearing Home, written by Billy Graham in his nineties, explores the challenges of aging while gleaning foundational truths from Scripture. Billy Graham invites us to journey with him as he considers the golden years while anticipating the hope of being reunited with his wife, Ruth, in his heavenly home that eclipses this world. "When granted many years of life, growing old in age is natural, but growing old with grace is a choice," said the author. "Growing older with grace is possible for all who will set their hearts and minds on the Giver of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ."

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. -Acts 20:24 (ESV)

"Explore with me not only the realities of life as we grow older but also the hope and fulfillment and even joy that can be ours once we learn to look at these years from God's point of view and discover His strength to sustain us every day." -BILLY GRAHAM

Inspirational & Uplifting
5 stars By Janet , Dec 16 2011
I had never read any of Billy Graham's books and knew very little about him other than he has been an amazing evangelist, when I requested a copy of this e-book to review.

My 76 year old Mother-in-law is living in an aged care facility following a heart attack and stroke 15 months ago, and she seems to have no purpose in life. I was hoping that Billy Graham may have some words of wisdom to share with her, and I was certainly not disappointed.

Mr Graham has lived a long and full life, and despite losing his beloved wife Ruth in 2007, and becoming frail as he ages, he has retained all (if not more) of the hope he has had throughout his life of spending eternity with Jesus.

This book provides a first hand account of his journey through old age. He doesn't gloss over the negatives, but neither does he paint a gloomy picture of what is in store for all of us if we live that long. Rather he encourages his readers by telling us that "God has a reason for keeping us here; if He didn't, He would take us to Heaven far sooner."

The book isn't just written for old people. It is for people at all stages of life to help them prepare for growing old and dying. In spite of old age's limitations and challenges, our latter years can be some of the most rewarding and fulfilling of our lives, if we are prepared.

Mr Graham refers to Heaven as "Home", because to the Christian, that is what it ultimately is. Death isn't the end. Despite what people think, this isn't "the land of the living" - we are all in the process of dying. In Heaven is where we will truly be in the land of the living.

I loved how the book was filled with relevant scripture references, and practical encouragement. I intend to read it to my mother-in-law as well as my elderly mother, and would encourage anyone who is facing old age with trepidation to get a copy. I found it to be inspirational and uplifting.
