Review:
"Best known for his non-fiction bestseller The God Chasers, Tommy Tenney has combined forces with writer Mark Andrew Olsen to create his first novel, Hadassah: One Night with the King. Tenney develops the Old Testament tale of Queen Esther into an action-packed historical novel about how this remarkable young Jewish woman became the wife of the King of Persia and foiled a plot to kill her people. This intergenerational novel will transport the reader from the present to the past and back again." - Book Page.

Sadly Missing the Mark
2 stars By Jo Sarah, Jun 26 2017
As a big fan of the book, I eagerly awaited the release of this movie. I was sadly disappointed.
Given the budget of a small film maker, it was unreasonable to expect that the grand opulence of the palace and the massive scale of the war would have been accurately portrayed. Also given the fact that much of the story revolved around the king "bedding young virgins", the filmmakers faced a difficult task in making this suitable for screen (which they did well). But these were not great concerns to me. You can make a great movie without a big budget.
What bothered me most was the (totally unnecessary) changes they made to the story line and to key aspects or symbols that were in the book. In doing so, they weakened the story line and it made for a disappointing climax.
The acting was good and a couple moments were just how I imagined from the book, but this unfortunately was not enough to redeem the film as a whole.

I love this adaption of the story of Esther! It's so well done. My nieces love this film, too. It's a great watch for the whole family.

Fave all time DVD
5 stars By LJ, Feb 13 2013
this is my fave all time DVD, it deviates slightly from the book of Ester, but remains very respectful in the portrayal of the story. Some awesome scenery, great sets with good actors added to the storyline and you have a movie that the whole family can enjoy. The intensity and drama surrounding the decision to approach the king and the guard lifting their swords to instantly strike her down is dramatic and portrayed well.

So Very Disappointing
2 stars By AJ, May 20 2011
Esther is one of the most amazing heroines in the Bible, but to watch this movie, you would never know. Whilst no movie can follow a book of the Bible word for word, this is only loosely based on the Biblical account and somewhat sanatised. Esther is transformed from a woman who lived in Susa centuries ago in a vastly different time and culture, to some hopelessly optimistic all American girl. She was so annoying that I could barely finish watching. The acting is just painful and the script disappointing.

Fantastic Viewing
5 stars By "V", Jul 17 2009
What a fantastic movie to watch. It keeps you entertained by spectacular cinematography whilst focusing on God. As long as you remember that they take "poetic licence" you will not be disappointed. There simply is no other Esther movie that accurately portrays the extravegance of the palace or the court of the King or his amazing bedroom and floor. Excellent family viewing. I have watched it 20 times now and it keeps getting better. My non-Christian friends love it and are open to God now! What a witnessing tool! Bravo!
