Mandisa's most meaningful and best sounding album!
4 stars By Paul, Jan 04 2018
This is definitely Mandisa's best album I've heard and the first one I took a chance and bought! It has a very interesting story behind it, which she tells about in the booklet, and a lot of very good lyrics. The album has an interesting structure starting off with voicemail messages from her friends to her and then a few songs then an into by Kirk Franklin giving a speech to start off the song "Bleed The Same". There is also a funny little clip before "Good News" and an interlude of Mandisa telling a story which is answer to the song "Prove Me Wrong" before it.
This album has quite a few people featuring on tracks such as; TobyMac, Kirk Franklin, Brit Nicole and Jeremy Camp.
Now, as far as what it sounds like....it is a very fun, upbeat and funky album with a few very thoughtful tracks too. It is album you can definitely dance and sing along to, and maybe even cry to. My personal favorite tracks are; "Out Of The Dark", Bleed The Same", "Good News", "The One He Speaks Through", "Shine" and "Shame Off".
So if your a fan of Mandisa you will definitely love this album, if your not (like I was), you will probably also love it. ;D

Powerful and honest
5 stars By Bec C, Dec 18 2017
Mandisa's "Out of the Dark" is a powerful and honest album. It's filled with hope and truth. This is Mandisa's comeback album after going through severe depression. It's beautiful, raw and refreshingly honest. Mandisa doesn't hold back and gives all glory to God."Bleed the same" is a powerful song and "The one He speaks through" I really liked.

Review
4 stars By Timothy Yap, May 22 2017
It may be twisted to say, but the depression, isolation, and anguish have refined the artistry of Mandisa. Forming the backdrop of the album is the much publicized battle the former American Idol had with depression. The album's opener "Voicemail Intro" actually strings together encouraging vocals notes of friends and family who cared enough to check on Mandisa when she was not well. Normally such theatrics can be annoying, but this time it brings out a realism to Mandisa's mental plight, giving this album an added humane touch. This segues into the bright, danceable, and popish "I'm Still Here" which Mandisa calls her "comeback song." More or less in the same lyrically trajectory of Mandisa detailing her triumph over depression is the RB-styled title cut "Out of the Dark." If you want your view of yourself radically changed by Christ, mediate on the flagship single "Unfinished," a song deeply rooted in Eph 2:10, where Paul reckons us as God's masterpieces.
