Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Born in Cardiff, Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was a practicing physician until leaving medicine to become the minister of a Welsh Presbyterian Church.

Minister of Westminster Chapel and co-founder of both InterVarsity Fellowship and the Banner of Truth Trust, this brilliant Welshman was arguably the greatest evangelical preacher of the 20th century.

Best remembered for the power of his sermons in an age of spiritual decline and apathy, Dr Lloyd-Jones exercised his formidable intellect in the service of a thoroughly biblical faith, inspiring his contemporaries to think through the implications of their beliefs for both Church and world.

Dr Lloyd-Jones never tired of calling the Church to revival, to foundational doctrines and to a prayerful zeal for authentic apostolic experience. His rich legacy of recorded and published sermons continues to be used by God to transform lives today.

Classic Lloyd-Jones! Highly Recommended for Devotional Reading
5 stars By Dr. Bernard Low, Nov 11 2015
This small book of 70 pages contains four sermons on Psalm 51 by the late Dr. Lloyd-Jones. These sermons were preached at Westminster Chapel in October 1949. The titles of the four sermons are: "The Sinner's Confession," "The Sinner's Helplessness," "The Sinner's Central Need," and "Deliverance and New Life." In these four sermons, the Doctor dealt with the important subject of repentance, underscoring it as an important and indispensable part of the Christian's experience. When confronted with God's glorious holiness and one's utter sinfulness, the Doctor points out that one cannot but desire and seek forgiveness and cleansing. Conviction of sin - and not remorse over sin - will of necessity lead a person to repentance. One realizes that he has offended and sinned against God and can do nothing but casts himself upon God who is ever merciful. Grieved over the sinfulness of his own heart, he also craves a new, regenerated heart. In response to the mercy he has received and experienced, he seeks to live a new life in obedience and service to God. Through his expositions of Psalm 51, Lloyd-Jones very skillfully preached the Gospel, confronting his audience with their sinfulness and their need to turn to God in Christ for forgiveness. These sermons are classic Lloyd-Jones and will do much good to the earnest seekers and troubled Christians. Highly recommended for devotional reading.
