Intriguing
4 stars By sarah, Jun 17 2014
Tessa has a series of these novels about women from the Bible and expands their stories into captivating narratives of what their lives may have been like. I enjoy the backgrounds of her stories as she researches all the appropriate history and weaves this with fictional accounts. Rahabs story is interesting, I found it parallels Ruths story in many ways - having to leave all behind and start afresh with a new people and learning about the true God. I enjoyed most of the book, except the love story between Salmon and Rahab. It was drawn out to be too long. Yet the subjects arising from Rahabs past was interesting and relevant to how many women feel today about themselves. I recommend this book, and enjoyed the audio version. The narration was well done.

Insightful reading
5 stars By Jacqui, Apr 24 2013
I've known the story of Rahab for years yet this book gave it a depth that I have never known. Without loosing the scriptural correctness of the story Tessa Afshar adds the cultural and historical padding. You really feel you are there as you are captured in the emotion of the characters and the events. God's sovereignty and grace are woven through the story so even though it is a work of fiction you are left knowing more of God and His character. I was challenged to grow in my trust of God too as I learned more of Rahab and her amazing faith.

Beautiful redemption
5 stars By Hannah, Feb 28 2013
With thoroughly researched historical facts, and a bit of imagination, the author takes you on a journey back to early Bible times to follow the story of Rahab. I've read and heard her story a hundred times but reading 'Pearl in the Sand' made me see Rahab in a way I've never seen before - as a woman trying not only to serve a God she doesn't know and a man she's only just met, but as a foreigner trying to integrate into a very strict Hebrew society. This was such a beautiful retelling of Rahab's story and I couldn't recommend it more highly.
