Proclaiming the gospel is without a doubt the most important task of pastoral ministry, yet often other seemingly urgent activities can obscure it. From time to time all pastors and preachers need a fresh reminder of the primacy of the gospel. Preaching the Cross does just this. It is a call to preaching the gospel as the centre of pastoral ministry. This volume showcases an unprecedented combination of pastors representing a variety of evangelical traditions. Though they may differ on some secondary points of church practice, they all enthusiastically celebrate the centrality of the cross of Christ.

Reformed teaching at its finest
4 stars By Kieran Carr, Dec 05 2016
Preaching the Cross 'is a call to expository, gospel-centred preaching as the centre of pastoral ministry' . It contains six stand-alone essays designed to encourage pastors to keep the gospel at the centre of their preaching. This is an encouraging and important message which has already been offered by people such as Don Carson and John Stott .

The most inspirational chapter is John Piper's on 'preaching as expository exultation for the glory of God'. In a book like this, an argument for the expository side of preaching is nothing new, but it is Piper's argument for expository exaltation which is so stimulating:

"God intends for preachers to unfold his words and exult over them - which is what I call expository exaltation...Woe to us if we do our exposition of such a gospel without exaltation - that is, without exulting over the truth we unfold."

I love how John Piper is so captivated by the depths of the glory of God as revealed in the gospel.
