Bath, England 1810

At twenty-eight, Alethea Sutherton is past her prime for courtship; but social mores have never been her forté. She might be a lady, but she is first and foremost a musician.

In Regency England, however, the violin is considered an inappropriate instrument for a lady. Ostracized by society for her passion, Alethea practices in secret and waits for her chance to flee to the Continent, where she can play without scandal.

But when a thief 's interest in her violin endangers her and her family, Alethea is determined to discover the enigmatic origins of her instrument … with the help of the dark, brooding Lord Dommick.

Scarred by war, Dommick finds solace only in playing his violin. He is persuaded to help Alethea, and discovers an entirely new yearning in his soul.

Alethea finds her reluctant heart drawn to Dommick in the sweetest of duets ... just as the thief's desperation builds to a tragic crescendo ...

An unexpected surprise
5 stars By Naomi, Dec 04 2015
There's always a risk when "trying" an author for the first time. Camille Elliot was definitely worth the risk!! This book is incredibly well written, the characters bring the story to life and you get a glimpse into what it would have been like for accomplished women of the day. Not sure if you want to read this book? Get it...you won't regret it!

Engaging
4 stars By Jenny Skinner, Oct 22 2014
Prelude for a LORD is a great read for those who enjoy stories set within the strict social confines of the Regency Period. The central characters both defy the social norms and therefore reap their peers censure and marginalisation. Regardless of being pushed, prodded, or coerced neither one can feel complete without pursuing the love of their lives. When this passion causes their paths to cross a second time it will either further alienate them from each other or draw them closer. Can two lonely hearts combine to find a fulfilling love or only outwit a clever thief? This book is full of twists and turns, with engaging characters and rich historical detail. Enjoy!
