Rescued From Vietnam

Michael Hosking

$24.99

Paperback

Michael Hosking relates the engrossing journey of his recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) suffered as a result of his service in the Australian Army during the Vietnam War. This memoir also honours the valour of his unit - the original 7th Battalion - and other allied soldiers who sacrificed so much for their countries. The heart-rending reality of combat trauma is examined from an honest, personal perspective.

Michael was conscripted into the Australian Army, trained to fight, and sent on an aircraft carrier to Vietnam, where he found himself in a deeply troubling and brutal conflict. He survived the jungle ordeal, but returned with PTSD, and seeking release, he travelled overseas, through Europe and Central Asia. After many humorous adventures on 'the Hippie Trail', he finished his odyssey in India with a spiritual experience. This had a profound effect on his soul, and brought healing and direction; many years later he returned to Vietnam, and found closure.

Rescued from Vietnam is a story of triumph over the long-term stress of wartime experiences. Michael Hosking's spiritual search, the strange protection he experienced, and his discovery of faith is both inspiring and entertaining.

Meet the Author

Michael Hosking

Michael Hosking is an ex-National Serviceman who served during the Vietnam conflict with 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment. Born in Hawthorn, Melbourne soon after WWII, Michael was educated at Marcellin College, Camberwell and St Josephs, Geelong, and found employment as a clerk with AMP. His life's work has combined commercial property valuations, with missionary endeavors in five Central African countries, where he teaches on microfinance and distributes small loans to the marginalized.

Now a retired Fellow of the Australian Property Institute, he is married with three children, living in Dromana, Victoria. Realizing how insidious and pervasive PTSD can be to a returned soldier's life, and the many people who have experienced trauma, Michael hopes his story will encourage veterans and people everywhere to seek their road to recovery.

Engaging
5 stars By Matthew Poole, Apr 19 2017
I love the sincerity of this book, the thoughtfulness and the transformation in Michael's life that takes place through the power of Jesus. It is full of history too both military and in travel. It's also full of photos from Michael's life and you get a sense of the age of the Vietnam War and the hippie trail strongly. You are an inspiration Michael! Worth checking out.
