Written in short 1-2 page chapters, this book offers bite size nuggets suitable for daily personal quiet time or for discussion in groups. Discussion topics stem from verses and it goes deep enough for richness of thought and conversation to engage.
While recovering from a personal crisis, a veteran communicator turns to the Sermon on the Mount. Sheridan Voysey's writing is elegant, imaginative and playful. It is rich with stories that move the heart and mind. These meditations provide fresh insights into Jesus' most daunting and demanding words. This book powerfully fulfils what it promises. We are plunged into God's intentions for living. We learn that resilience comes not from within ourselves but from taking Jesus at his word and living accordingly. 2016 Australian Christian Book of the Year judges
An excellent book that facilitates great growth as a Christian. Resilient provides a reading each day that teaches and gives practical tips on living a Jesus-Shaped life. It covers every topic from being kind to our neighbor all the way through to being bold enough to be willing to be persecuted for our faith. A well-written book with a broad audience. Definitely a book that every new and experienced Christian should read!
Sheridan Voysey has a knack for putting his thoughts and his experiences from a biblical perspective into great reading, that will appeal to all. Brought out in Resilient is his sense of assurance that no matter what hardships we encounter a reliance on God for strength will make us equipped to bounce back effectively.Through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount he has connected Jesus' teaching and unpacked the principles he felt led to address to enable the reader to use this book in a positive way, thus enabling them to have a more powerful and resilient existence.
What ever your beliefs in life, this book will take you further, and will challenge your thinking. You will gain a new perspective on life. History proves that Jesus of Nazareth walked this earth, and whatever status we give him, we know he spoke words of power - and I am thankful that some can "interpret" his words into our culture, relevant for 2015, better than I can. I appreciate good books, like this one, to expand His teachings into my life. I often think that radio and TV interviewers (like Sheridan) have some common ground with Counsellors (of which I am one) in that they ask probing questions that help us go a little bit further into ourselves, and break out something that we were not fully aware of yet. This book does just that - like an interviewer, like a counsellor - some challenging digs, that for if we are ready, we will benefit. Love is the law behind laws, as Sheridan reminds us.
