Science and the New Age Challenge

Science and the New Age Challenge

Ernest Lucas

$20.99

Paperback

The New Age movement is an important element in contemporary challenges to the claim that modern science is the defining model of truth. Many in the movement believe that there are affinities between Eastern mysticism and new theories in the sciences, particularly the new physics. They claim that science, properly understood, supports New Age perspectives.

Ernest Lucas, a scientist and biblical scholar, looks at several key thinkers who have influenced New Age concepts and attitude, including de Chardin, Capra, Sheldrake and Lovelock. His approach is thematic, describing and evaluating New Age approaches to truth and human knowledge, physics, biology, evolution and ecology. Particularly and sympathetically, he considers its sophisticated but flawed search for a holistic view of scientific truth, human knowledge and spirituality, but he finds it in Christian, rather than New Age faith.
