Soul Keeping: Caring For the Most Important Part of You

Soul Keeping: Caring For the Most Important Part of You

$17.99

Paperback

The soul is NOT 'a theological and abstract subject.' The soul is the coolest, eeriest, most mysterious, evocative, crucial, sacred, eternal, life-directing, fragile, indestructible, controversial, expensive dimension of your existence. Jesus said it's worth more than the world. You'd be an idiot not to prize it above all else. Shouldn't you get pretty clear on exactly what it is? Shouldn't you know what it runs on? Wouldn't it be worth knowing how to care for it? Two things are for sure. One is: you have a soul. The other is: if you don't look after this one you won't be issued a replacement. Bestselling author John Ortberg writes another classic that will help readers discover their soul and take their relationship with God to the next level.

When is the last time you thought about the state of your soul?

The health of your soul isn?t just a matter of saved or unsaved. It's the hinge on which the rest of your life hangs. It's the difference between deep, satisfied spirituality and a restless, dispassionate faith.

In an age of materialism and consumerism that tries to buy its way to happiness, many souls are starved and unhealthy, unsatisfied by false promises of status and wealth. We've neglected this eternal part of ourselves, focusing instead on the temporal concerns of the world?and not without consequence.

Bestselling author John Ortberg presents another classic that will help you discover your soul?the most important connection to God there is?and find your way out of the spiritual shallow-lands to true divine depth. With characteristic insight and an accessible story-filled approach, Ortberg brings practicality and relevance to one of Christianity's most mysterious and neglected topics.

A Modern Classic in the Care and Cure of the Soul
5 stars By Dr Bernard Low, May 20 2015
I have read some books by John Ortberg but nothing so engaged my mind and my soul as this book of his. This book should be considered a modern classic in the care and cure of the soul which Ortberg persuasively argues is the most important part of our being. This book has three parts. In Part I, Ortberg expounds what the soul is and cites Dallas Willard who explains that the soul is that aspect of our whole being that correlates, integrates, and enlivens everything going in the various dimensions of the self. The soul is the life center of human beings. Ortberg also deals with the need to attend to our unhealthy souls, made so because of sin. In Part II, Ortberg goes on to expound what the soul needs - a keeper, a center, a future, to be with God, rest, freedom, blessing, satisfaction and gratitude. The 10 chapters in this second part of the book is a goldmine as they show the reader what the soul must do and not do in order to be healthy, God-centered and God-filled. In Part III, Ortberg writes very helpfully on the subject of the dark night of the soul and how God uses that experience to draw the soul closer to Himself. This book is highly recommended not only for the ordinary Christian concerned for his soul but also for people in the business of caring for souls.

Life saving reading
5 stars By Jacqui, Aug 26 2014
This is an incredibly impacting book. John Ortberg takes a really difficult and highly misunderstood subject, the soul, and breaks it down into a very understandable, readable and life changing book. Dallas Willard was John's mentor. In this book John shares his deep insecurities and pain in a very vulnerable way. We are privileged to then learn from the insights he gleaned from Dallas Willard. We learn that the soul is not some abstract thing but rather a vital part of us that we need to understand and care for if we are going to live a free and satisfying life in and for Jesus. It is filled with principles and biblical backing that John has made easy to understand and relate too. It is a book that you will read several times.
