:An investigator who knows tragic loss firsthand,
and his new client, missing far too long...

Abducted at the age of sixteen and coerced into assisting the Jacoby crime family, Shannon Bliss has finally found a way out. She desperately wants to resume some semblance of normal life, but she also knows she has some unfinished business to attend to. She might have enough evidence to put her captors behind bars for a very long time.

When Shannon contacts private investigator Matthew Dane, a former cop, to help her navigate her reentry into society, he quickly discovers that gaining her freedom doesn't mean her troubles are over. If the Jacoby family learns she is still alive, they'll stop at nothing to silence her.

If justice is to be done, and if Shannon's life is ever to get on track again, Matthew will need to discover exactly what happened to her--even if it means stirring up a hornet's nest of secrets.

Meet the Author

Dee Henderson

Pastor's daughter Dee Henderson is a lifelong resident of Illinois, USA, and currently resides in Springfield. She believes that marketing books should be about the stories rather than the writer, so she keeps a low profile compared to many authors. Her background is in mathematics and computing science (B.Sc 1988) and she had a high paying job as an engineer before she moved into full-time writing in 1996. Her technical expertise has given her an unusually keen insight into the structural aspects of storytelling. The results are plain to see; since 1999, Dee has produced two bestselling fiction series - the acclaimed O'Malley series and Uncommon Heroes - as well as eleven stand-alone titles.

Dee's books brilliantly mix suspense and romance, and her characters undergo varied and interesting faith journeys that are integrated skillfully into the storylines. Dee's work has won or been nominated for several prestigious industry awards including the RWA's RITA Award, the Christy Award, the ECPA Gold Medallion, the Holt Medallion, the National Readers' Choice Award, and the Golden Quill.

Ok but not as expected!
3 stars By Donna who loves to read!, Jul 04 2016
I was so excited to pick up my copy of Taken! The front cover looked intriguing and the back cover description sounded like it would be suspenseful and exciting. However the book did not turn out as I expected.
The story is ok, Shannon was kidnapped 11 years ago and turns up on the doorstep of a PI whose own daughter had been kidnapped years before. She turns to him for help because she believes he will understand her situation and what she has gone through. However, the cover made it sound much more suspenseful than it actually was.
I found the story lacking any suspense! I was constantly waiting for something dramatic to happen throughout the book yet the climax never really came.
The characters did a lot of talking but there was no real action. There was no "edge of your seat" moments where you felt like anything might happen. Everything seemed to fall into place a little too easily, and the "bad guys" weren't really believable as they played no part in the story except as a bad memory that the characters talked about.
I felt really flat and let down at the end of the story as I thought that not much had really happened, the story had so much potential to be a gripping drama, but was sadly lacking.

Uncomfortable
3 stars By sarah, Dec 03 2015
Dee Henderson is a clever author, able to bring out suspensful stories and keep the reader engaged for the duration. This new novel explores the aftermath of a young womans escape from kidnappers, years after she went missing. It deals with the reclaiming of her independence and beginning a new life. Although this concept is a good one, the author has really made this a long drawn out novel, making it hard to keep interested. In addition, she creates a slowly blossoming romance between the 27 year old woman and a friend 15 years her senior. This is rather uncomfortable and extremely questionable. I found it difficult to persist with the story til the very end and was suprised Dee would choose to create such a large age gap between the two main characters. Unfortunately this is a book I recommend fans skip, and try one of her other novels.

Forgiving
5 stars By Harsh, Dec 01 2015
This was an excellent book! A young girl kidnapped and her dreams and hopes taken away from her. You go through her desire to seek redemption and to set things right again and to free people who were like her. With this process, she also faces struggles with adapting to normal life and society once more.

5 stars By Lena, Nov 24 2015
Another fabulous read from Dee Henderson.
Edge of the seat action, can't put the book down type of book.
So good that she weaves God and Christian values throughout the story.
Loved it and love all of Dee Henderson books!
