By focusing on the "hows" and whys" of Christmas, this warm yet journalistic book will help believers reaffirm their faith while guiding seekers as they pursue solid answers about this miraculous occurrence. With material from The Case for Christmas as well as new ideas from author Lee Strobel, this book is designed to be a tool to give away to family, friends, neighbours, and others who want to understand what happened at Christmas 2,000 years ago.

Who was in the manger that first Christmas morning? Some say he would become a great moral leader. Others, a social critic. Still others view Jesus as a profound philosopher, a rabbi, a feminist, a prophet, and more. Many are convinced he was the divine Son of God. Who was he - really? And how can you know for sure? Consulting experts on the Bible, archaeology, and messianic prophecy, Lee Strobel searches out the true identity of the child in the manger. Join him as he asks the tough, pointed questions you'd expect from an award-winning legal journalist. If Jesus really was God in the flesh, then there ought to be credible evidence, including:
  • Eyewitness Evidence - Can the biographies of Jesus be trusted?
  • Scientific Evidence - What does archaeology reveal?
  • Profile Evidence - Did Jesus fulfil the attributes of God?
  • Fingerprint Evidence - Did Jesus uniquely match the identity of the Messiah?
The Case for Christmas invites you to consider why Christmas matters in the first place. Somewhere beyond the traditions of the holiday lies the truth. It may be more compelling than you've realized. Weigh the facts . . . and decide for yourself.

Terribly Mistitled, but a Good Book
4 stars By Simon, Jan 16 2010
The reason this book is mistitled is because Strobel is not arguing a case for the pagan holiday Christmas, but rather a historical rationale for the first advent of Jesus.

The book actually has nothing to do with Christmas, which is actually the pagan festival Saturnali dressed up as the birth of Jesus. The most likely time of Jesus birth, according to scripture, is in the month of Tishri on the festival of Tabernacles. For

As for the book itself, Strobel explores a plethora of evidence that for all but the most disbelieving, soundly demonstrates the historical existence of Jesus.

His work is very much a logical progression, which will be useful in strengthening the faith of new believers and answering the doubts of those asking questions.

Overall, an enjoyable and encouraging read, but in need of a new title. My suggestion; 'The Case for Christ's First Appearing'

Great gift
4 stars By Peter Dekker, Apr 12 2007
THE CASE FOR CHRISTMAS by Lee Strobel, is essentially a reworking of a chapter from his book THE CASE FOR CHRIST, designed as an inexpensive Christmas gift or tract for those in your life who are struggling with the question of Christ being the Son of God.

Obviously focusing primarily on the birth of Jesus, Strobel, a journalist, interviews a number of respected academics (including C.L Blomberg & D.A Carson) on the issues of the trustworthiness of the gospels, the archaeological evidence of Jesus' birth, the fulfillment of the attributes of God in Jesus, and His fulfillment of Messianic expectation.

What I really like about Strobels "The Case For?" series is his flowing journalistic style, which while assuming a reasonable level of intellect, is done in such a way that the average thinking non-Christian will be familiar and comfortable with.

The fact that he approaches his interviews as a skeptic (he apparently was during most of his interviews) enhances the effectiveness of this book as an evangelistic tool as it does not come across as a Christian bashing a nonbeliever around the head saying, "YOU MUST BELIEVE". This book is written in a very logical and well structured style.
