About "The Chance"
Years ago, the day before Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend Nolan sat beneath the Spanish moss of an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to each other, and sealed them in a rusty old metal box. The plan was to return eleven years later and read them. But now, as that date arrives, much has changed. Ellie, bereft of the faith she grew up with, is a single mom living in a tired apartment trying to make ends meet. Sometimes she watches television to catch a glimpse of her old friend - Nolan, now an NBA star, whose terrible personal tragedies fueled his faith and athletic drive in equal measure. But Nolan also suffers from a transcendent loneliness that nothing has ever eased.

Karen Kingsbury never disappoints. If you want inspirational Christian reading, characters you'll fall in love with and romance you won't want to put down, she delivers. And it's all there in 'The Chance.' It is the story of two best friends, Ellie and Nolan, who have been separated by circumstances and unforgiveness for years. But God has a plan for their lives, which circumstances and unforgiveness can't change. Through their relationship, Karen shows her readers how God actually uses our circumstances to draw us closer to himself and His plans for us. Great story, great characters of Ellie and Nolan, great ending, which you'll have to read the novel to find out.

This was a touching story about forgiveness and second chances. I enjoyed the way the stories of the four characters intertwined, as each approached hurt and betrayal in different ways ultimately leading to the understanding that healing can only come from God. I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as I have others by Karen Kingsbury, I think because fairly early on the ending becomes obvious making the rest of the book less engaging. I still enjoyed it, and I recommend it - it is just not my favourite Kingsbury book.
