Absorbing story of love, hope and a Christmas miracle
4 stars By Ruth Woodhouse, Dec 22 2017
Melody Carlson's inspirational Christmas fiction is amongst the best there is - and this one won't disappoint! This is an absorbing story of a young woman who finds herself in desperate need of support when she gives birth to a baby after she finds out her fiance's plane has gone down during World War 2. She takes a long trip to his hometown, hoping that his parents, who don't even know of her existence, will welcome her and their son's baby. On arriving, she is dismayed to learn that her baby boy's grandmother isn't regarded as the most warm and empathetic person in town though. Furthermore, the family is wealthy and may be suspicious of her story and motives. With little money after being robbed on the train, she finds herself in the midst of freezing conditions, seeking accommodation in a cheap hotel, which results in both her baby and herself contracting pneumonia. It will take a Christmas miracle to give Amelia and her baby boy the future her fiance wanted for her. This is not a long read and is something easy enough to manage, even amidst the frenzy of all the activities so many of us have in December. It would be a nice, gentle book to read between Christmas and New Year too.
