The God of Gospel of John

Marianne Meye Thompson

The God of Gospel of John

Marianne Meye Thompson

$42.99

Paperback
While there are numerous studies of God in the Old Testament, the concept of God in the New Testament has largely been ignored. Marianne Meye Thompson's original work fills this gap. In writing the first comprehensive study of the concept of God in the Gospel of John, she shows that a proper understanding of God is central not only to John's writing but to the entire New Testament.Challenging the prevailing theory that John is primarily about the nature of Christ, this book shows that we must first grasp the importance of God to John before we can properly appreciate the Gospel's christology and overarching message. Expertly combining biblical interpretation and theological insight, Thompson asks how John portrays God and how, after reading the Gospel, we ought to speak of the identity of God.

- Publisher 247 pages

- Publisher Some scholars approaching John's Gospel emphasize the "signs," the "I" discourses of Jesus, or the method of organization that is so different from the other Synoptics. Thompson, however, makes a full-scale investigation of John's view of God compared to other Scripture.
