The one who needs rescuing isn't always the one in the tower.

Rapunzel can throw a knife better than any man. She paints beautiful flowering vines on the walls of her plaster houses. She sings so sweetly she can coax even a beast to sleep. But there are two things she is afraid her mother might never allow her to do: learn to read and marry.

Fiercely devoted to Rapunzel, her mother is suspicious of every man who so much as looks at her daughter and warns her that no man can be trusted. After a young village farmer asks for Rapunzel's hand in marriage, Mother decides to move them once again-this time, to the large city of Hagenheim.

The journey proves treacherous, and after being rescued by a knight-Sir Gerek-Rapunzel in turn rescues him farther down the road. As a result, Sir Gerek agrees to repay his debt to Rapunzel by teaching her to read. Could there be more to this knight than his arrogance and desire to marry for riches and position?

As Rapunzel acclimates to life in a new city, she uncovers a mystery that will forever change her life. In this Rapunzel story unlike any other, a world of secrets and treachery is about to be revealed after seventeen years of lies. How will Rapunzel finally take control of her own destiny? And who will prove faithful to a lowly peasant girl with no one to turn to?

"The Golden Braid is a delightful, page-turning retelling of the story of Rapunzel. Dickerson brings this familiar fairy tale to life with a fresh and unique plot that is full of complex characters, a sweet romance, and danger at every turn. Rapunzel's search to understand her place in the medieval world is a timeless identity struggle that modern readers will relate to. Her growing courage and faith are inspirational and will have readers cheering her on and sad to see the story come to an end."

A Must Read
5 stars By Amy , Feb 10 2018
Melanie intertwines the Golden Braid brilliantly with the previous book the Princess Spy.
Rapunzel knows Mother never wants her to marry, but why? Why do they keep moving from village to village when most people never leave their village ever? Find out the answer to these questions and many more when you read the Golden Braid.

A beautifully woven tale!
5 stars By Mezza, Dec 25 2017
Loved, loved, loved this fabulous tale by Dickerson! It was the best re-telling of Rapunzel I've ever read, and I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns along the way. I was pleasantly surprised by the sudden plot changes that happened along the way. I have always loved the medieval times, and this book has incorporated the feel of those times quite well. It was also very exciting to see how the other books were woven together with this one. This book is enjoyable as a stand-alone book, but if you read the whole series, it makes it even better. Would recommend this book for those who like medieval times, and a good sweet romance, with a bit of adventure along the way!

Captivating fairytale
5 stars By Jacqui, Sep 05 2017
I thought that since this was based on the fairy-tale; Rapunzel it would be predictable. I was so wrong. I was held captive and on edge the whole story. It made me feel as though I was living in the middle ages with knights and castles and evil people and schemes yet there was a purity and light that kept coming through. There was the extra bonus towards the end of the story where we meet up with some of the characters from the previous books in this series too.

The tale of the stolen
5 stars By Joy, Aug 23 2017
This story was brilliant, shocking and unexpected! Especially when I found out she was stolen, trapped and fell in love! It is truly the best and most amazing book I've read because surprise is around every corner! Not a single paragraph is even a teeny bit boring!
