This book was chosen as the study guide for my home group - most of us enjoy it well enough and it provokes some interesting discussion. Each chapter is short and easy to read and ends in some discussion topics for the lone person or group and some other pointers of things to pray and think about, it is based around the lords prayer and prompts you to read passages in the bible along with Lucado's commentary about the topic. Some chapters are better than others - so it has been a little hit and miss for me as I have found some of it rather dry and hard to get into because of his colloquial way of writing sometimes.
I always like Max Lucado's books because he has a very quirky way of writing. His analogies in this book bring life to the Lords prayer where he compares each part of this prayer to a room in a house. For example 'Our Father in Heaven' talks about the room being the observatory and the expanse of the heavens where Our Father is. It gives power to prayers when we look at that bigness of God, the care he has for the universe and then how much much he cares for us. Max says "..sometimes out of his great wisdom our Father in heaven gives us a piece of heaven just to show he cares." We used this book to study in our life group and Max has included discussion points to ponder, verses and prayer points. I enjoyed the fact that it was an easy read but that he also bought out the completeness of what our Father has done for us and that we should dwell with him continually.
I've always enjoyed Max Lucado's books and the way he uses simple illustrations to make profound points. This book was no different. I loved how he explained the Lord's Prayer using each of the rooms in a house - rooms we are more than familiar with but will never see quite the same again. It was beautiful, inspiring, sometimes challenging. Definitely a book I would read more than once and recommend to others.
