- Publisher As a master of biographical preaching, Dr. Clarence Macartney captures the personal struggles, failures, and spiritual victories of biblical characters. Each of the sermons in this volume examines an individual who achieved greatness in the spiritual life. While all of them may have failed in one way or another, their lives reflect both the grace and the greatness of God. As Dr. Macartney observes, "It is not possible to preach on the great men of the Bible without speaking practical and timely truths to the people, and in a way that everyone will understand. The great advantage of such preaching is that you summon these men themselves into the pulpit and permit them to preach for you." These sermons contain a wealth of illustrations and quotations that will deepen the reader's insight and appreciation of biblical truth and provide the pastor and speaker with a through-provoking resource for sermon preparation. n.
