reluctant adventurer
4 stars By LJ, Jan 24 2018
read this when i was 14 about a young man who was a reluctant adventurer who learned so much about himself along the way. His journey was incredible and the later bmovies bring it alive as well. A good book to encoring those who are struggling to become engaged in reading, with the reward of the movie at the end to see the characters in their mind come to life

All-time favourite
5 stars By Ana, Oct 08 2016
My favourite Tolkien book!
This is the story of how a very timid, quiet hobbit named Bilbo Baggins had an adventure and became a bold and daring 'burglar'.
When he has an unexpected visit form Gandalf the wizard and this 13 dwarf friends, Bilbo's life changes. With them, Bilbo sets out on a desperate quest to defeat the dragon Smaug and claim the dwarves long lost treasure.
Although what with a narrow escape from trolls, being captured by goblins, almost being eaten by 'Gollum' and nearly being roasted by Wargs, it isn't easy.
In the end the company wins through, with help from Elrond, Beorn, and a mysterious ring Bilbo finds. But there is more to his ring then meets the eye, as he finds in the following 'Lord of the Rings' series.
'The Hobbit' will captivate and enthral for years to come.

To say that I love this book, and Tolkien's other stories, is an understatement. 'The Hobbit' is a great introduction into the world of Middle Earth and the lives of the strange folk that live there.
