Meet the Author

Laura Wilder

Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 in the log cabin described in "Little House in the Big Woods". She and her family traveled by covered wagon across the Midwest. Later, Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri. There, believing in the importance of knowing where you began in order to appreciate how far you've come, Laura wrote about her childhood growing up on the American frontier. For millions of readers Laura lives on forever as the little pioneer girl in the beloved Little House books.

The adventures for Laura Ingalls and her family continue as they bravely face a very hard long winter of 1880-81 in their little house in the Dakota Territory. After an October blizzard Laura's family moves from the claim shanty into town for the winter, a winter they will never forget a 7 month long winter. Every day their are blizzards and storms and everyday is the same for Laura and her family. With little food and no supplies from the outside, the town are hungry and running out of food, until Almanzo Wilder and his friend risk their lives and go out of town miles away to buy some wheat.
