Meet the Author
Matthew Henry (1662-1714), was born into a committed Puritan family and followed his father's footsteps into full-time ministry, being ordained as a Presbyterian pastor in 1687. Despite ill health, deep bereavement, and the demands of his pastoral duties, Henry produced many devotional and scholarly works. They remain popular three centuries after his death, especially his classic commentary on the whole Bible.

If you have already read the whole bible once through, then it's time to gain a deeper understanding this next time possibly with the help of this commentary. If you haven't, then it's probably because you got confused somewhere in the old testament (like I did), in which case this commentary may also be helpful to you. I personally find a commentary like Matthew Henry's, more substantial than the "life application" commentaries there are around (although those are useful too). However this new version also makes the 300 year old Matthew Henry easier to read without taking away the substance. Such a thick book it's well worth 30 even just to sit on the shelf for you to occasionally pick up when you get stuckwant some deeper insight.
