John Bunyan (16281688) was born in Elstow, England, and enjoyed decades of success as a writer and preacher. He was imprisoned more than a decade for preaching without a license, and it was in prison that he began and finished Pilgrims Progress, one of the most famous allegories ever written. A Puritan, Bunyan also wrote three other influential works: The Life and Death of Mr. Badman (1680); The Holy War (1682); and Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners (1666). His grave is at Bunhill Fields, in London.

Meet the Author

John Bunyan

John Bunyan (1628-1688) was born in Elstow, England, and his life was spared twice in his early years, something he believed God had done for a special purpose. In November 1660, when Bunyan arrived to preach in the little town of Lower Samsell, he was informed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Unwilling to denounce his Christian faith and his calling to the ministry, he was imprisoned for twelve years.

Among the many writings he published during his imprisonment are The Holy City; Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners; and the most famous, The Pilgrims Progress.

After his release, he became the pastor of a church in Bedord, England and continued to write and publish stirring works that have endured through time. Among these classics are The Holy War; Bunyan's Visions of Heaven and Hell and Journey to Hell: The Life and Death of Mr. Badman.

Excellent Editition
5 stars By Kylie T, Jun 26 2017
With there being so many editions to John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress," it's easy to be confounded with which one to select. I'd highly recommend this edition above the others, with the "Moody Classics" being a stamp of approval to assure the readers that an excellent choice was made. This version isn't one that has been abridged for an easy read, meaning it contains the richness of Bunyan's words and the beauty of the literacy which was known during the 17th century. This writing helps take the reader on an insightful journey and opens their mind to the excellency that was Bunyan's legacy of literacy.

A classic for a reason
5 stars By Will, Aug 11 2016
A very clever yet biblical portrayal of the Christian life. A classic in Christian literature, John Bunyan depicts the narrow road of a Christian as a pilgrimage towards the kingdom of God. It really challenges you to think about the path you're currently walking on and if you are truly walking with Christ.
