Lots of History
2 stars By Hannah, Jul 03 2016
I didn't particularly enjoy this book, mainly because it felt more like a history textbook in which the author had tried to fit a novel into than a novel itself. It seemed a bit lacking on plot and quite a number of the minor characters could have been left out altogether.

That said, I learnt a lot about Chicago, the World Fair, orphanages, now-famous people (the inventor of the Ferris Wheel, Pullman sleeping car, etc). Though the story didn't appeal to me, if you like early American history, you'll probably enjoy it.

Enjoyable
4 stars By Victoria , Nov 20 2014
Lucy Banning was born before her time. Her struggles to gain an education was inspiring.
Throw in a wealthy family, romance and you have a outstanding read.

Not bad
4 stars By IM, Sep 16 2014
The beginning is slow but interesting. Then the rest of the story gets interesting a little confusing. I wish there was more romance involved. Overall, it a good read. I would not mind reading the next one in the series
