The Secret Thoughts of An Unlikely Convert

The Secret Thoughts of An Unlikely Convert

$21.99

Paperback

"In April of 1999, I felt the call of Jesus Christ upon my life. It was both subtle and blatant, like the peace inside the eye of a hurricane. I could in no way resist and I in no way understood what would become of my life."

Rosaria, by the standards of many, was living a very good life. She had a tenured position at a large university in a field for which she cared deeply. She owned two homes with her partner, in which they provided hospitality to students and activists that were looking to make a difference in the world. In the community, Rosaria was involved in volunteer work. At the university, she was a respected advisor of students and her department's curriculum.

Then, in her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down--the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic and sometimes downright damaging, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

This expanded edition includes more than 50 pages of additional content, including: two open letters from Rosaria, Pastor Ken G. Smith's story of reaching out to Rosaria, Pastor Kent Butterfield's testimony of Christian hospitality, FAQs, psalms to sing, and more.

Eye opening, yet modest and honest
4 stars By Fiona E Brown, Dec 25 2017
I very much enjoyed this book.
Eye opening yet modest, Rosaria's honesty taught me a lot about the LGBT worldview and also about American Christian Culture (both of which are fairly foreign to this rural Aussie Christian). I enjoyed hearing her thoughts, seeing the world through her eyes and meeting the people who shepherded her gently. What a hard journey she has walked; what a beautiful heartfelt testimony to the Grace of God. I came away with a better appreciation of LGBT culture and how to minister to people of other worldviews.
Four stars because I found the book way too lengthy. Further the reflections on worship music, and even to some extent homeschooling, I found irrelevant to the purpose of the book.

Solid gold encouragement!
5 stars By Ibu Guru, Dec 10 2017
I bought this book to get an insider's view due to all the rhetoric about SSM. This book was so much more. Rosaria's story inspires and affirms the part God plays and how we can contribute to the salvation of each person. Every reader will be blessed. I highly recommend it.
