:

Evangeline longs to be free, to live in the world outside the castle walls. But freedom comes at a cost.

Evangeline is the ward and cousin of King Richard II, and yet she dreams of a life outside of Berkhamsted Castle, where she might be free to marry for love and not politics. But the young king betroths her to his closest advisor, Lord Shiveley, a man twice as old as Evangeline. Desperate to escape a life married to a man she finds revolting, Evangeline runs away from the king and joins a small band of servants on their way back to their home village.

To keep her identity a secret, Evangeline pretends to be mute. Evangeline soon regrets the charade as she gets to know Wesley, the handsome young leader of the servants, whom she later discovers is the son of a wealthy lord. But she cannot reveal her true identity for fear she will be forced to return to King Richard and her arranged marriage.

Wesley le Wyse is intrigued by the beautiful new servant girl. When he learns that she lost her voice from a beating by a cruel former master, he is outraged. But his anger is soon redirected when he learns she has been lying to him. Not only is she not mute, but she isn't even a servant.

Weighed down by remorse for deceiving Wesley, Evangeline fears no one will ever love her. But her future is not the only thing at stake, as she finds herself embroiled in a tangled web that threatens England's monarchy. Should she give herself up to save the only person who cares about her? If she does, who will save the king from a plot to steal his throne?

Don't silent your song...
5 stars By Grace, Aug 23 2017
Evangeline dreams of being a peasant, but not a king's granddaughter with no freedom. Everything just gets worse when lord Shiveley asks the king for her hand in marriage. Evangeline realizes the only way to escape is to run away and pretend to be mute. But she can't keep the secret for long when she meets Westley a handsome Lord's son. Can she risk the king's position and her own life for love?

Little Mermaid comes to life
4 stars By Hannah, Jan 14 2017
Once again, a beautifully imagined retelling of a well-known fairytale, this time The Little Mermaid. The author has a way of instantly transporting you back in time to the land of lords, ladies, servants, arranged marriages and honourable knights and keeping you there through rain, hail and intrigue until all is once again right with the world. Such a beautiful story.

The little mermaid retelling
5 stars By Joy, Jan 09 2017
I think this book is one of Melanie Dickerson best books yet!
It's filled with twists, turns, suspense, chaos, and narrow escapes. I'm sure anyone that likes the story of the little mermaid would LOVE this story. It's like a better, upgraded version. I like to read stories to entertain myself and relax and I find this one very entertaining because it's very unpredictable
That's why I really enjoyed this book. I hope Melanie writes more like it!

Gripping fiction
5 stars By Jacqueline, Jan 07 2017
This story grabbed me from the first page and was difficult to put down. I loved the softness yet incredible strength of Eva and Westley, the main characters. There is also a great blend of friendly and evil secondary characters. I loved the loyal friendships and the witness to what living a life for Jesus involves. It's hard to saying anything more without spoiling the story. I would say read it though as you will not be disappointed.
