The Spirit of Creation (Pentecostal Manifestos Series)

$48.99

Paperback

In this fourth volume of the groundbreaking Pentecostal Manifestos series, Amos Yong argues not only that pentecostal thought has a place in scientific discussions but also that pentecostal-charismatic insights into the dynamic presence and activity of the Spirit of God in creation have something important to add to the discourse. Interacting with psychology, sociology, evolutionary science, cosmology, and various other scientific fields of study, Yong's Spirit of Creation: Modern Science and Divine Action in the Pentecostal-Charismatic Imagination offers a significant contribution both to pentecostal thought and to the ongoing dialogue between theology and science.

^The "problem" addressed in this book can be simply put: What does a "premodern" supernaturalistic religion like pentecostalism have to do with the naturalistic and rationalistic world of modern science? What does Azusa Street, the iconic site of the pentecostal movement, have to do with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the central educational institutions of the scientific establishment in our time? More importantly, does pentecostal theology have anything to say in, much less contribute to, the ongoing dialogue between theology and science?

^^"Amos Yong's preeminent role among Pentecostal-charismatic theologians has long been acknowledged. His Spirit of Creation now reveals him as one of the most exciting constructive theologians at work in the contemporary religion-science dialogue. Some will resist his openness to science, others his openness to the real activity of the Spirit. But Yong's beautifully argued proposal may just be the closest that one can come to reconciling science, orthodox Christianity, and a Spirit-centered theology. Indispensable reading for anyone interested in the relationship of theology and science today."
Philip Clayton - Claremont School of Theology

^^^"This welcome new volume from the pen of Amos Yong brings together two major contemporary movements in theology: the growing, worldwide interest in religion and science, and the growing sophistication and extent of outstanding Pentecostal theology. Yong covers many of the key issues in theology and science today, while always providing a learned and Holy Spirit-oriented theological perspective.
