About "The Story of Silent Night"
It is the most popular Christmas song ever written and has been translated into 120 different languages. And yet, Father Joseph Mohr, the man who wrote this beloved Christmas Carol in 1818, died in humble obscurity. This film dramatizes the life of Fr. Mohr - his fatherless upbringing, his tireless dedication to the people of his parish in Oberndorf, Austria, and the inspiration that moved him to pen this simple poem one late winter evening. A highlight of the program is performances of the carol in both German and English by the Vienna Boys Choir. Extra Features: Holiday Fest in Austria Silent Night, World War II, 1944
