Both my children used the Adventure Bible as they were growing up. I think it is a great Bible. The children really enjoyed the additional features and information contained in the Bible. Once they reached their teenage years, they moved onto the Teen Study Bible. I would recommend this for children up to the age of around 12-13.
I'm very pleased with this Bible for so many reasons! My son has had children's story Bibles, but he's begun asking for "a REAL Bible." This one checks all the boxes: 1) The actual Bible text is clear and not too busy to read. 2) The hardcover is sturdy and fits perfectly in a standard medium-sized Bible cover. 3) The sidebars are extremely helpful: Words to Treasure (memory verses), Did You Know? (explanation of important concepts), Live It! (application ideas), and Life and People in Bible Times (historical notes). 4) Special, thicker pages throughout highlight important information such as "Ten Commandments for Kids," "Bible Verses to Read When You Feel...," "How to Pray," and "Getting to Know Jesus." 5) The back section includes a subject index, a dictionary-concordance, and maps with a map index. 6) Each page has at least some colour on it. I haven't found a single black-and-white page. This Bible is very engaging and child-friendly, while still giving kids a grown-up Bible to treasure.
I had one of these when I was a kid and loved all the extra bits and notes in it. This NIV full-colour Bible is a lot more colourful now and definitely appeals to kids. I like the layout because it gets kids attention and draws them into looking at it more. And what better for a kid to read than the best book in the world - the Bible!?!?
This is an excellent bible for young teens or mature pre-teens. I myself had an adventure bible when I was young and have recently purchased a copy for my god son. The bible contains colorful pages with bible verses to remember and little pieces of information to clarify some of the harder topics in the bible. I would recommend this to anyone, particularly if you are looking to encourage a child to read the bible.
