Paperback

Told through the eyes of former Chief Inspector Gary Raymond (NSW Police Force), Top Cop captures the essence of police life and covers with depth and humour a wide range of incidents from his career.

Raymond saw life at its raw edge - death, murder, suicide, petty crime. He was at the scene of the John Newman political assassination and present when the killers of Anita Cobby were tracked down. He struggled with a worker at the top of a Sydney television mast and rescued two women from under the debris of the infamous Granville train wreck.

A stirring account of Raymond's dogged determination, he repeatedly put his life on the line in the service and protection of others. His rugged and tenacious faith in God shines through. Top Cop will change the way you think about Australia's police force. This is a book that will make readers ask for more.

Foreword by Andrew Scipione, current Australian Commissioner of Police.

Great stories but quite difficult to read and follow because they are not well written. Needs a lot of editing to make it an enjoyable read.

An excellent read
5 stars By Bev, Dec 28 2014
I found this book an excellent read which really held my interest from beginning to end. It gives a great insight to Police work and I would especially recommend it to any person entering the Police Force. I loved Gary's up front Christian witness and his care for the people whose lives he touched.

Down To Earth and Inspiring
4 stars By Sean, Apr 07 2014
Gary Raymond has seen a lot in his life: his upbringing is certainly a testament to God's faithfulness; his early work as in ambulances brought out a compassionate heart, but most powerful of all is Gary's stories of criminals coming to repentance and faith! Oftentimes society is all to eager to give up on, condemn and hate criminals, but God isn't so quick to do so, praise the Lord! Gary shares some amazing stories of the Holy Spirit convicting men and women of their sin and causing a radical change in their life. During his career as a police officer, Gazza has witnessed some very terrible things, but also a great number of beautiful events, people and occasions that will speak of God's love and faithfulness. There are plenty of nerve-wracking adventures too, and you'll find yourself drawn into this book because surely, it can't all be true (But it is)! Hopefully Gary's book will help give our hardworking police men and women a better rep than they often get. I strongly encourage anybody with an interest in policing andor the emergency services to give this book a go. I only gave it 4 stars because I found that sometimes the narrative is hard to follow as it's not always in chronological order. But that's just me, it's a fantastic biography!

Gives you an insight into police work
4 stars By Jo, Dec 05 2013
I met former Chief Inspector Gary Raymond when he came to Koorong for a signing. Gary Raymond is a very nice man, very friendly and has a strong Christian faith. Top Cop is a very good book about the career of Gary Raymond, it reveals the reality of life as a policeman. This book makes you think about all that policeman and policewoman face on a daily basis and how much they do to serve the community.
