EVEN WHEN LIFE HURTS
Because obeying God makes sense to us. In most cases, His laws appear reasonable and wise, and even when we don't want to obey them, we usually concede that they are good for us. But the circumstances we find ourselves in often defy explanation. When unexpected situations arise that appear unjust, irrational, or even dreadful, we feel confused and frustrated. And before long, we begin to doubt God's concern for us or His control over our lives. Adversity is hard to endure and can even be harder to understand. If God were really in control, why would He allow the tragic Auto accident or crucial job loss? How could He permit cancer in a loved one or the death of a child? Grappling with His concern for us we ask, &"Why is God allowing this?" or &"What have I done wrong?" In an effort to strengthen his own trust in God during a time of adversity, Jerry Bridges began a lengthy Bible study on the topic of God's sovereignty. What he learned changed his life, and he now shares the fruit of that study with you in Trusting God . As you begin to explore the scope of God's power over nations, nature, and the detailed lives of individuals, you'll begin to acknowledge His loving control. And as you come to know Him better, you'll find yourself trusting Him more completely&-even when life hurts.

5 stars By Scott Monk, Sep 15 2010
When times are joyful, trusting God is easy. We feel empowered and thank Him for His grace and blessings. But an honest Christian acknowledges that during times of tribulation, trust wavers like a roaring sea, while at the same time doubt tries to drown us.
Jerry Bridges' book, Trusting God, centres on one important topic: sovereignty. Can we accept that God in His infinite wisdom and love has control over every single aspect of our lives - both the big and the small? That His plan for us is perfect, even when we are exhausted, confused or hurting? That God's hand is at play during miracles, as well as tragedies?
Bridges' reassuring book is for hurting Christians who don't want soup-kitchen answers ladled into their souls, then told to move onto the next bookshelf. His narrative both questions and comforts the reader, who is no doubt looking for a framework to build upon when God seemingly is silent to their most earnest and tearful prayers.
He explores God's sovereignty through dozens of examples in scripture, doesn't hesitate in exposing some of the negative thoughts we harbour when all seems lost, and gives a step-by-step guide to trials faced by the patriarchs, who trusted God in their darkest moments.
As he spells out, adversity is a guaranteed part of the Christian walk. This in turn creates anxiety. We should accept the first, and reject the latter. Unfortunately, as humans, we do the opposite.
