Meet the Author

Amanda Deed

Amanda Deed grew up in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. Raised in a Christian home, she came to know Jesus at an early age and before the age of 20 was following a passion to serve Him through music and worship, eventually gaining opportunities to tour Australia with a worship band. In 1997, she married Morry and their first child was born in 1999. Soon after that they moved to Darwin for five years, where Amanda served further in music ministry which sometimes took her into remote areas of the country. It was during this period that she discovered a passion for writing and began to seriously pursue it. With three young children, the Deeds have now re-settled in Melbourne's South East where Amanda can focus on her family, her writing and involvement in the local church worship team.

Write Your Own Review
Unique on two counts
4 stars By Meredith Resce, Mar 22 2018
This second book in Amanda Deed's fairy-tales retold series, follows the beloved story of 'Beauty and the Beast'. The first point of uniqueness comes from the book retelling that story but in a colonial Australian context. This story reveals the usual level of historical research Amanda does to make her tale an immersion into our colourful past.
The second point of uniqueness is that Amanda has chosen to focus on a sensitive issue that is often overlooked-I don't think I ever recall a Christian fiction novel that has used this issue in context of their main hero character. Our beast character is not a beast in body, but is obviously struggling with some form of mental illness. As the author says in her final note, mental illness was certainly stigmatised in the past, and attached to great shame. Some of that stigma remains today, and yet the characters-the people are real, and the struggle is real. How does someone struggling with anxiety or depression work through their real-life relationships? I encourage you to read this story and go on that journey.
