A Great Resource
4 stars By LRB, Feb 14 2015
Have found this to be an excellent book. It is well written using easy to understand language and can be read from cover to cover or as individual summaries of each Book of the Bible. The historical background, an over view of the author and it's intended audience and purpose for being written, provides a greater understanding of each book of the Bible. This has certainly helped in understanding Scripture to a greater extent prior to undertaking a specific Bible study.
The author's denominational background and theology is including throughout but should not deter anyone from purchasing this book.
An excellent read and a book I have recommended, and also purchased, for others with questions regarding the Scriptures

The Title Says It All...
5 stars By Gavin, Jun 01 2014
The one book I think that is essential to have on hand for reading studying through one book of the Bible at a time. It literally unlocks the Scriptures in a way that I have never had before.

Concise background understanding of each book interspersed with general Scriptural analysis without too much detail to enable me to still dig deeper for my own personal revelation. It has the overall balanced revelation that David Pawson is gifted at so effortlessly delivering. Without a doubt, it whets my appetite for digging deeper into the Bible.

So far I have given away three copies and there will be more yet!

I simply cannot recommend it highly enough.

Understanding at last

Unlocking The Bible

By David Pawson

Reviewed by Freya Pickard

At last a commentary by someone who not only really knows the Bible, but also has a dynamic relationship with God.

What I like about David Pawson’s style is that he doesn’t tell you what to believe. Instead, he gives you the background of each book in the Bible and points you in the right direction. From there you have to go and find out things for yourself.

It took me over a year, on and off, to read right through this amazing book. In the process, Pawson challenged and destroyed many ill-conceived ideas ingrained in me from a traditional church upbringing. He also confirmed many conclusions I had reached by myself regarding the Bible and the Church which was confidence boosting.

This book is not for the faint-hearted. If you’re not interested in what the Bible really says (not what the institutionalised Church tells you it says) then don’t bother reading it. But if you what to find out what Christianity is really about, then this is the book for you.

Pawson’s language is simple and would be easy to understand for people with English as their second language. He claims that a 12 year old would be able to understand his sermons without any problem.

This is probably the only other book, apart from the Bible, that a serious Christian needs.

A fantastic resource to accompany your study of the Bible!
5 stars By Peter Hobbs, Sep 04 2009
I found this an excellent book for setting the context of each book in the Bible. For example who each book was written to, what are the main themes in the book, how does the book fit into the whole Bible and how important and crucial each book is. Pawson reinforces how important it is for us to read the Bible in context. Brilliant book and often refer to it in my study.
