This book teaches the power of invitation. It may sound simple, but we are so caught up in our busy church lives that we have missed it. In 2004 Michael Harvey gave up a high-flying job in the City of London to teach church leaders to see new possibilities, using an approach that has quickly become established as Back to Church Sunday. Michael likes to challenge churches of all sizes to double their congregation in a day. In 2009 at least 80,000 new people came to church in Britain through this approach, with around 10,000 becoming new believers. The basics are simple: Invite your friends, and become an inviting church. Develop a mind-set open to what God might do; work on creating a welcoming environment; learn from mistakes; help people to know God. "It takes a very brave person to walk into a church on their own nowadays," says Michael, "but God is still speaking to them and all they need is a gentle invitation."
- Publisher.

" Thank God that this is not another theoretical textbook! If church leaders put into practice what they read in here, the only possible outcome will be new people becoming Jesus followers!"
Gary Gibbs, Director of Evangelism and Church Planting, Elim Pentecostal Churches.

'Michael Harvey is a very gifted communicator whose seminars in the Diocese of Worcester have been inspirational. I am delighted wholeheartedly to commend this book which distils much wisdom from them on practical ways in which we can spread God's love in Christ.
Rt Revd John Inge, Bishop of Worcester

"Michael's passion for invitation is infectious and something that Christians need to take seriously. It's biblical, the first time was Andrew in John 1:41"
Revd Ian Bunce, Head of Mission, Baptist Union of Great Britain

You have a great gift of inspiring people to 'think welcome' and to encourage them to do it.
Rt Revd Dominic Walker, Bishop of Monmouth

"Your ministry here has been a blessing already. Just the question, 'Are you a guest or a host?' has stirred up many people."
Rt Revd Michael Hawkins, Bishop of Saskatchewan

"Inviting to church is so obviously necessary for caring Christian people, so strangely intimidating for most of us, but so helpfully encouraged and enabled by Michael Harvey through his ministry"
Revd Stuart Smith Mission Convenor Glasgow Presbytery Church of Scotland

...There are positive thinkers and positive thinkers, and then there's Michael. He is engaging as a speaker, mixing charm, humour, boundless enthusiasm, with an uncanny ability to say profound things when you weren't expecting it. But in this book it is clear that there is far more going on than simply a positive and persuasive speaker. The author knows that the Church will not be changed by simple or even complex human strategies. We are asked, I believe, to invite others with the same ease and welcome with which we are invited; Divine simplicity conquering even the most sophisticated and well worn human resistances and arguments. Don't just read the book, use it, and allow God to transform our simple offer into life changing moments.
Revd Mark Wakelin, President Elect, Methodist Conference

Unlocking The Growth
5 stars By Bishop, Feb 20 2012
I like: The emphasis on learning from failure (my friend Dr Arch Hart says that failure is God's nudge to growth' and that we need a healthy theology of failure'); How the author brings us back to God's great desire to have people come to Him and to even use us; His ability to illustrate points with relevant Scripture passages and examples; The basic philosophy of his approach that this is something we can do, if we are willing to think about it and then give it a go; His emphasis on not giving up nor letting others deflect us. Peter Brain (Bishop of Armidale).
