Veggie Tales

Phil Vischer came up with the idea of computer animated characters based on vegetables in the early 1990s. To develop the concept he founded Big Idea Productions, Inc. with Mike Nawrocki, and in 1993 the first Veggie Tales video was released. Since then Veggie Tales has been a phenomenal success, running to nearly 50 storylines and reaching a whole generation of children. The animations feature a colourful core cast of 'Veggies' led by Larry the Cucumber and his sidekick Bob the Tomato. They bumble their way hilariously through adventures that interweave Bible themes and popular culture references - like Sherlock Holmes, Indiana Jones, and Robin Hood. The aim is always to impart biblical life lessons. Key features of each storyline are a memorable 'silly song', performed by one or more of the characters, along with a concluding 'What have we learned' round-up of the main lesson.

The Veggie Tales series was adapted successfully for TV in 2006, and Big Idea has also released Veggie Tales books, music CDs, toys, and clothing, as well as two feature-length movies Jonah and The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. In 2012, Classic Media - the parent company of Big Idea and Veggie Tales - was acquired by DreamWorks, which has produced such hit animated films as Shrek and Madagascar.

Great cd
4 stars By Sarah , Sep 25 2017
A very veggie Easter is another veggietales product that will bring laughter and joy to families. The various styles of songs and many have nonsensical lyrics coupled with the veggietales characters is a great resource for both families and churches. The story of Easter is interwoven in both the songs like Hope's Song and also the discussion the characters have inbetween the music. It is a great listen and recommend it.

Wonderful
5 stars By Jacqui, May 02 2016
My first introduction to this cd was when my little three year old grand daughter was singing about an empty egg and an empty tomb and telling me about how Jesus is alive. I bought it straight away to have for my other grandkids as any resource that can get that message across to little ones and creates opportunities to talk about Jesus is worth having. I confess that It is past Easter and I am still playing it in my car as the songs are all catchy yet, apart from the typical silly veggie tale songs, teach a great message. I love the old hymns too. A burst of joy in the day.

Brilliant
5 stars By Hannah, Mar 16 2015
Anything VeggieTales is an acquired taste but I found this CD to be really good - even for those who are a little weirded out by singing vegetables! Rather than just a play list of songs, there's a bit of a story in between - about a Sunday School class full of kids who are learning what Easter is really all about. There are some crazy songs in there (Easter Bunny Hop, How Now Easter Cow), some classics (Christ the Lord is Risen Today, He is Risen) and also some original songs which really get to the heart of Easter - at a level even toddlers could understand. One of my favourites is one that parallels an easter egg hunt (something every kid is familiar with!) with the empty tomb. Very clever, and very good for starting conversations about Easter with your kids.
