Essential Book
5 stars By Emma, Jul 25 2014
This book is for everyone. Upon reading this book I did not admitt I feared man more than God. Once I read this book I saw the many ways I was putting people and there opinons over the opinons of my loving Father (God). This book challenges you to put God first and fear him above his creation.

Excellent book on Fear of the Lord
5 stars By Julz, Jul 06 2013
If you are struggling with fear of man, then this book is for you, as you will be greatly blessed by this book as I had been. Welch started with the possible causes of the fear of man, and then moved on to the solution to this problem, i.e. to learn the Fear of The Lord. He did well in expounding the scriptures that talked about the Fear of The Lord, and it has really changed my perspective. He also gave us some practicalities, such as loving our neighbours and needing them less for our purposes. This book is truly a threat to the self-esteem gospel, as it proves that the idea that we have "leaky love cups" is unbiblical, and Welch shows us why.

An amazing book
5 stars By When People Are Big And God Is Small, May 08 2013
This Book is an amazing book it is engaging and easy to understand, while the content is deep and meaningful. Edward T Welch thoroughly and biblically covers the topics of the fear od man and the fear of God, reminding us of who God is and what it is to fear Him. Welch also talks about what our true needs are and about the deception of what the world says that we need. One of the chapters is entitled "Delight in the God who fills us" this is such a great thing to be thinking about and welch has a great biblical way of explaining and expanding on such topics.

Nip fear of man in the bud
5 stars By Joel Radford, Jul 11 2012
Man is not called to live alone. Therefore living in relationship with other humans should be a delight. But since sin has entered into the world, our relationships with others are broken and dysfunctional. In fact, one of our biggest problems is that we have become afraid of others - we all struggle with fear of man.

Ed Welch's book is an encouragement to overcome the fear of man that drives us into further sin and pain. Fear of man is particularly dangerous because as Welch says, 'we replace God with people. Instead of a biblically guided fear of the Lord, we fear others.'

Thus the first part of the book is dedicated answering how and why we fear others. Particularly why we fear that people see us, reject us and physically hurt us.

Then the second part of the book teaches you how to overcome the fear of man, particularly by fearing the Lord and delighting in service to him.

If you struggle with a fear of others, which every honest person would admit they do, then this book will nip that fear in the bud and replacement it with a much more joyous fear: the fear of the Lord.

A Great Book!
5 stars By Karl, Dec 31 2007
In this insightful book, Ed Welch looks at defensiveness, people pleasing, need for approval and self-esteem issues. He does this with a God-centred perspective that offers hope for everyone.
It is so often the case that the opinions of others effectively control us and God seems small and distant. Ed Welch has a knack for taking ideas about God that we already "know" (or should know) and showing us how really knowing God is directly relevant to the struggles of life. He brings a positive, hope-filled message to those who feel paralysed by the harmful actions of others.
I have found this book to be helpful to many.
