Sheds Much Light
5 stars By Matthew Poole, Apr 02 2017
This sheds much light on revival and healing ministries in the past and shows that even with a great level of anointing like these generals there can still be mistakes that can be made. Roberts is a great researcher and storyteller, the book is written in a nice size and style of font with black and white photographs that really bring these revivalists in front of you.

Essential Reading
5 stars By James, Apr 12 2016
This book is a must for leaders and those aspiring to be leaders. Roberts is a Christian historian and like Jesus he highlights not only the highs but also the lows of Christian leaders who have gone on before us. Roberts has shown us that while leaders are not perfect - as long as they are available and humble themselves God will use them to fulfill His purposes and to reach generations for Christ. Please read and reflect on each leader and learn or unlearn the good and the bad from their lives.

God's Generals - and their humanity
5 stars By SteveB, Oct 15 2014
Roberts put together such a wonderful account of rise and some falls of these giants in God's army. Roberts covers their successes and also their downfalls, something that was incredibly valuable for me in ministry.

Thoroughly enjoyed this volume and look forward to reading the rest of the series, time permitting :)

Couldn't put this one down
5 stars By Mark E, Jun 09 2009
This book gives potted bios of twelve American "revivalists" active roughly pre-1950, including three women. Each account is long enough to give real depth and detail, and short enough to read one or two in a sitting.

The author describes his special life calling for this biographical work - a promising qualification. I found his editorial/pastoral comments non-intrusive and helpful. Overlook the cheesey title and cover design.

This volume (of three) covers Pentecostals, so it's packed with baptisms in the Holy Spirit, tongues, miracles, visions, healings, and mass conversions. But don't be put off if you're an evangelical like me. It does demand a kind of "liar, lunatic or of the Lord" assessment, but if you get past that, you can marvel and praise God for the mighty works he is doing in modern times. This is Acts continued.

A rollicking read, but much more. The common elements in the lives of each are especially clear when compared as a group like this. It left me asking what does this mean for me and my church.
