'Many books are written by experts. This book isn't one of them,' admits Tim Chester. 'It was written out of my own struggle to change. My long battle with particular issues set me searching the Bible as well as writings from the past. This book shares the amazing truths I discovered that now give me hope.'
'For years I wondered if I'd ever overcome certain sins. And while I can't claim to have conquered sin - for no one ever can do - here are discoveries that have led to change in my life and in the lives of others.'

You may be:

  • a new Christian, struggling to change the habits of your former way of life

  • an older Christian, feeling you've plateaued: you grew quickly when you first believed but now your Christian life is much of a muchness

  • a Christian who's fallen into sin in a big way, wondering how you'll ever get back on track

Other books describe how we should live, but this book outlines how we can change. It's about hope: the hope we have in Jesus, hope for forgiveness, and hope for real and lasting change. God promises liberating grace and transforming power to his people.

A practical, interactive, and solidly biblical book designedto help Christians in all stages of life to find victory over sinby focusing on what God has already done in us.It's about heart change, not behavior change. That's theconviction of Tim Chester as he seeks to help everyday Christians"connect the truth about God with our Monday-morning struggles."This interactive book, laid out in workbook fashion, is for newerChristians struggling with sin and for more mature Christians whohave plateaued in their faith as they seek to find victory over sinin their lives. With a conviction that sanctification is God's work and thejourney to holiness is joyful, Chester guides readers through a"change project"-beginning with the selection of one area of lifethey would like to modify. Each chapter includes a question (e.g., Why would you like to change? What truths do you need to turn to?)to guide readers as they deal with a specific sin or struggle, truths from God's word, and a reflection guide to help readersthrough their change project.

The power of grace for change
5 stars By Rory, Feb 15 2017
So often you can hear in the midst of struggle and sin, when trying to become free, about what YOU need to do in order to change. This book starts from what GOD has done and how to work that deep into yourself in order to realise who you are in Christ and to respond to that in repentance and faith. So helpful and very uplifting to hear the gospel of grace to change us broken sinners into more like Jesus.

Priceless guide to growing in holiness
5 stars By Hoa, Sep 01 2016
You Can Change is one of the best books on growing in holiness. He clearly shows the biblical teaching, and provides practical steps and reflection questions. This goes much deeper than superficial self-help, but applies the gospel to the Christian life. Highly practical, thoroughly biblical, a must-read for every Christian.

Refreshing
4 stars By Tikvah08, Apr 29 2015
Tim Chester does not beat around the bush. While he is thorough and appeals to context, history and mainly biblical truth to form his arguments, the progression is worth the journey even when it seems he's straying from the main point. This book is excellent at presenting the idea of transformation and victory over sin and the flesh. The crucible of true and lasting change isn't mere mental exercise, but the matters of the heart, Christlikeness being the goal. A great read!

You really can!
5 stars By Pete, Dec 10 2014
This is simply the most helpful book on sanctification that I've ever read. It's gospel-centred approach is a welcome alternative to so many books that focus on method and "discipline" in overcoming sin and the idea of choosing a "change project" and a "change partner" make the whole thing super practical. This is Tim Chester at his best!
