Q&A with Ern Crocker

Why did you decide to write The Man in White?
As I was presented with one remarkable story after another; stories of hope, of power, of survival against all odds, I was compelled to document these accounts so that others might witness them also.

It is an intriguing title - why did you choose this?
The Man in White takes us on a journey beyond the historical Jesus to that of a personal Jesus. Throughout the scriptures he appears again and again as a man in bright apparel; as an angel, as Christ himself, as the fourth man in the furnace described by King Nebuchadnezzar as having the form of the Son of God. A number of my friends have experienced the man in white in their dreams, visions and in reality. This has often occurred in times of crisis. I have been privileged to be entrusted with these stories.

You have collated many stories in this book. How do you go about finding all these amazing testimonies?
I don't have to go looking! I know that God has a purpose and a plan with this book. He presents them to me, sometimes in a most unexpected way. For example, I met Professor Graeme Clark, inventor of the bionic ear, on a cold winter's evening waiting to be admitted to a presentation in his honour. I had no idea who he was till later that evening!

Has there been a particular story/ person that has really impacted you while writing this book, and if so why?
Each one has brought something special. Dr Reg's personal experience at the time of impending execution astounded me. Feby Chan's ability to find hope and trust in the wake of personal tragedy has extended my faith and trust. Asif's discovery that the name of Jesus was more powerful than a cyclone challenged my certainties. Professor Graeme Clark at 6 years of age announced that one day he would help the deaf to hear, and through his life God prepared and equipped him to develop the bionic ear by the age of 42. This has enabled 550,000 profoundly deaf people to hear!

What do you think being a medical doctor has brought to your writing of this book?
I have professional insight into many of the medical and psychological issues raised and I am aware of the importance of validating, confirming and documenting my findings.

What do you hope readers will most get out of reading this book?
If someone was invited to meet with the Queen of England would they excuse themselves with the words that they were too busy? Well, we have an open invitation to meet with the King of Kings, daily. It is my sincere hope that people reading this book will discover that a personal, ongoing relationship with the living God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is not only possible but available to all. If they reach out to him, they will not be diminished but rather extended far beyond their expectations.

In one sentence, how would you describe The Man in White?
The Man in White will provoke you to re-examine your relationship with God, and to reach out with extended arms to embrace the presence, the purpose and the power of God in your life.
